Surrender is Strength
Pregnancy is a portal to the deep unknown. Humans tend to fear situations where the outcome
is unclear or when we do not understand how or why something is, or will, happen. The walk
toward welcoming a new soul into the family can have both parents confronted with anxieties
about the whowhatwhenwherewhyhow of the new role in front of them. My advice: surrender.
Surrender to the process of being unraveled from the familiar, and reconfigured as someone
new, and capable, of the changing assignments. Conception is a God thing. We can provide
the right environment and the right time, and yet the final answer of yes or no comes from the
Lord. The faster we surrender to the sovereignty of the Creator of All Things, the less we suffer.
And every day we accept our life and surrender to Him that which we cannot control, our trust
in God will increase and produce the fruit of peace.
Our attempt to maintain control is our attempt to reduce the risk of getting hurt, yet what
actually happens is the tensions in our relationships increase. Control is our way of trying to
keep things the way we want them to be and/or to maintain the familiar, whether healthy or
toxic. What we fail to realize is the stress of trying to maintain control is causing interpersonal
ties to be strained. The areas where we are the most controlling are the places where we send
the clearest signals to God and others that we don’t trust them.
Trying to control the uncontrollable works against us and produces tension. Surrendering to the
One in control produces peace. This peace can overflow into the labor and childbirth process,
and position birthing people to endure the process of bringing children Earthside rather suffer
through. The body follows the mind.
